  • Shell is the program that takes commands from the keyboard and passes them to the operating system (kernel) for performing.

BASH

  • Bash is short for Bourne Again Shell. It’s a replacement to the original shell (/bin/sh).
  • BASH combines the features of the original shell + additional functionality to make it easier and more convenient to use.
  • Nowadays, BASH has been adopted as the default shell for most linux systems.
  1. Explain the functionality of root user.
  • The root user is similar to a superuser or syatem administrator.
  • Root user (superuser) has ultimate control and access to all files/directories in the system. Examples: creating and maintaining user accounts, assigning different permissions for each account, etc.
  • Another advantage: restricted programs can be executed from the terminal by using the root account.
  • Root is the default account every time Linux is installed.
  1. What is CLI?
  • CLI stands for command line interface. This interface allows user to type declarative commands to instruct the computer to perform operations.
  • Linux CLI is called Terminal and the commands will be interpreted by the Shell. Preferred by developers/programmers.
  • Advantage: multiple steps can be executed by specifying a single command.
  1. What is GUI?
  • GUI stands for graphical user interface and makes the system attractive.
  • Users would find it difficult to remember commands, can use the GUI.
  • GUI allows the users to navigate/access files by clicking on images and icons.

Swap space is certain amount of space used by Linux to temporarily hold active programs.

This happens when RAM does not have enough memory to hold all programs that are being executed.

  1. What is cloud computing?

It is the use of servers on the internet to “store”, “manage” and “process” data. The difference is instead of using your own servers, you are using someone else’s servers to do task, paying them for the amount of time you use it for.

  1. What are the different types of services offered in the cloud?
  • IaaS : infrastructure as a service, you get the raw hardware from your cloud provider as a service i.e., you get a server which you can configure with your own qill.
  • PaaS : platform as a service, gives you a platform to publish without giving the access to the underlying software or OS. For example : web apps, mobile apps in azure.
  • SaaS : you get software as a service in azure i.e., no infrastructure, no platform, simple software that you can use without purchasing it. For example : when you launch a VM on azure, if we talk about the OS, you are not buying the OS, you are basically renting it for the time you will be running that instance.
  1. What are the different cloud deployment models?

Following are the three cloud deployment models:

  • Public cloud

  1. What is the use of roles in Microsoft Azure?

Roles are nothing servers in layman terms. These servers are managed, load balanced, Platform as a service virtual machines that work together to achieve a common goal.

  1. Is it possible to create virtual machine using Azure Resource Manager in a virtual network that was created using classic deployment?

This is not supported. You cannot use Azure Resource Manager to deploy a virtual machine into a virtual network that was created using classic deployment.

  1. What are virtual machine scale sets in Azure?

Virtual machine scale sets are an Azure compute resource that you can use to deploy and manage a set of identical VMs. With all VM configured the same, scale sets are designed to support true autoscale, and no pre-provisioning of  VMs required. So, it’s easier to build large scale services that target big compute, big data, and containerized workloads.

  1. Are data disks supported within scale sets?

Yes. A scale set can be defined as an attachment data disks configuration that applies to all VMs in the set. Other options for storing data includes:

  • Azure files (SMB shared drives)
  • OS drive
  • Temp drive (local, not backed by Azure Storage)
  • Azure Data service (for example, azure tables, azure blobs)
  • External data service (for example, remote database)
